Last month I attended LogicNow’s (previously GFI Software’s) partner conference in Orlando. I continue to be amazed at the great nonpromotional educational content that’s shared at MSP events in general. This event was no exception. Indeed, during the keynote on day one, Dave Sobel, director of partner community for GFI, took the stage to talk about the value of MSPs and how they can be successful long term through stability and agility.

Wearables are not new. Google Glass has been used in plant asset maintenance for a couple of years now. Tools like Innovega or MicroOptical have also been used by early adopters to display service instructions and illustrated parts breakdowns (IPBs) to service technicians for more than a decade. These heads-up display technologies (HUDs) allow technicians to readily access repair information in the field while servicing equipment, shortening downtime, and increasing the effectiveness of repair activities.

The first half of 2014 marked a rise in springtime credit spending and interesting advancements in global mobile wallet and payment technologies. In the U.S., what will this increased e-commerce activity and the upcoming back-to-school and winter shopping seasons hold for the rest of year?
Now that the second half of 2014 is upon us, a number of retail trends have been established. Are you familiar with any of them? Whether your business is primarily conducted in your brick-and-mortar store or through an e-commerce site - or both, it's always important as an owner or manager to keep abreast of the most pressing trends. Some will merely be flashes in the pan, of course, but several are already exhibiting major staying power. While you don't necessarily need to jump on the bandwagon of each one, chances are that virtually all of them will provide significant benefits for your company.
An explanation of host card emulation (HCE) first requires a brief overview of near-field communications. Near-field communications, or NFC, requires a mobile device to have the necessary hardware installed, which could be in the form of a SIM card or NFC chipset installed directly in the device. This hardware element is responsible for performing certain security tasks, such as authentication and communication to a reader. NFC requires cooperation from and collaboration with carriers, and the hardware must be compatible with the payment system selected by the carrier.
What is Near Field Communication (NFC)? What does it have to do with payments?
Storage technology — and the way it will need to be sold in the future — is changing. Adoption of flash storage is growing apace as enterprises are increasingly attracted to the benefits it offers over traditional hardware. Indeed, IDC predicts that the global market for flash storage will continue its growth to $4.5 billion in 2015. However this new era, rather than being seen as a threat to traditional revenue streams for resellers of traditional storage hardware, in fact presents a whole new level of opportunity for the savvy reseller.
