The "doing more with less" theme abounds everywhere. In the short run, it is what happens — people and companies find ways to get things done with fewer resources. In the long run, hiring and investing will come. I talked with the plant manager, and she echoed the sentiments a lot of us feel, "We don’t want to invest or hire until we know this recovery is real and sustainable." First quarter GDP growth was revised down from an initial 3% to 2.7%. Unemployment remains high. Access to credit is still a problem for most businesses and consumers. Despite the government saying inflation is at its lowest levels in decades, my raw material costs are going up. I don't think anyone understands the potential economic impact of the oil spill.
