D&H Adds Search Feature To ID Products That Save Money, Power & Equipment During The Year's Hottest Months

August 18, 2010

North American computer and consumer electronics distributor D&H Distributing has implemented an online search feature to identify cooling technologies, power-conservative products, and items to protect against power surges or outages. This keyword search allows SMB VARs to help their end-users battle the effects of the prolonged heat wave, creating new sales opportunities. D&H resellers can access the online search tool by entering the keyword "HEATWAVE" into dandh.com's search window.

The results show more than 1,400 items that can be of benefit during a continued hot spell, and beyond. These include laptop coolers, fans, power strips, surge protectors, and office equipment that draws less power and produces less residual heat than past machines have done.

Sweltering summer weather came early to many regions of the US, and the situation doesn't seem to be abating as we head through always over-heated August. One thing a heat wave can do, however, is bring the importance of cooling and power-saving technologies to the attention of small business owners, who may be looking to help counteract some of the effects of the prolonged high temperatures.

With thermometers reading in the 90s and above since June, SMBs are faced with hotter office spaces, greater air conditioning needs, higher energy bills, even the possibility of maxed-out power grids and failures. This provides the incentive to install efficient cooling technologies and conservative equipment, and to guard against outages from excessive power demands or brutal summer electrical storms, as have recently been reported in parts of the Northeast.

Specialized Online Tools: The Flexibility to Meet Up-to-the-Minute Needs
D&H places value on being responsive to its customers' needs and the changing idiosyncrasies of the market. Therefore, its technicians can create specialized search capabilities on dandh.com, through which customers can call-up a particular group of recommended products to address an immediate opportunity. The company recently also implemented a keyword search for its college bookstore customers, to help them identify the most appropriate notebooks for the education market during the back-to-school season.

D&H's new Web Calendar tool is another way the distributor is trying to provide up-to-the-minute product and industry information. Just launched in July, the D&H Calendar gives resellers daily bulletins on regionalized industry events, news, product launches, promotions and more.

"Temperature-wise, it's been a trying summer for a lot of companies. Not every office is prepared for a hot-streak of this magnitude," said Jeff Davis, senior vice president of sales for D&H. "When the power-eating months are extended like this, it makes an impact on a small business. As technology advisors to these companies, resellers can help them protect their hardware and better manage their energy costs, even after the heat wave subsides."
