D&H Enjoys 5.5% Growth In Q1; Names Q2 Growth Categories
August 19, 2009
D&H Distributing, a computer products and consumer electronics distributor, has announced that it has continued to see overall growth in Q1 Fiscal ’10. D&H has experienced 5.5% sales growth in its first fiscal quarter of 2010 (May 1 – July 31), with increases of up to 47% in certain categories. Areas that have performed well with D&H’s SMB resellers include notebooks, netbooks, VoIP, scanners and document imaging solutions, multi-function printers, server solutions and digital cameras.
D&H has proven its ability to draw successful numbers even in the worst recession in decades. This is a result of its commitment to finding strategic opportunities that empower SMB VARs to maintain their profitability. In keeping with this focus, D&H is looking at forthcoming growth categories to identify recession-resistant categories that might help resellers maximize their year-end sales.
As a decades-old broadline supplier in the IT channel, D&H has come to recognize the nuances of trends very early in their debuts. By honing-in on this proficiency, account reps are not only able to alert their resellers of technical developments, like the mobile evolution from high-performance laptops to small-scaled netbooks; they are often the first to recognize emerging patterns, like document imaging as a cost-effective, ecologically-conservative transition away from paper archiving.
“Accurate forecasting can make an overwhelming difference when it comes to boosting year-end figures, as opposed to settling for flat sales. We don’t want our customers to have to settle, and some can’t afford to,” said Rob Eby, VP of purchasing at D&H. “In this environment, VARs need trustworthy insight as to what choices will let them optimize those last-chance revenues of 2009. D&H has a broad enough base of experience to function as that reliable advisor, and our current numbers give credence to that. There are definite advantages to longevity and persistence in the marketplace.”
“Success is related to much more than just product category growth at D&H,” added Mary Campbell, VP of marketing at D&H Distributing. “It’s our mission to empower resellers with sales strategies and services, from credit offerings to educational venues like our new virtual trade shows and more. This kind of support can enhance the customer’s core competencies in addition to their category offerings.”

D&H Growth Categories for Q1 FY ’10 (May to July ‘09), over last year:
- Notebooks 47%
- Network security hardware/licensing 42%
- Scanners/Imaging 38%
- Multi-function printers 29%
- VoIP 27%
- Server products 23%
- Digital cameras 18%
Top Prediction for Year-End Growth Areas:
- Notebooks/Netbooks: Mobility has provided a bright spot in sales over the past two or more quarters, as notebooks have overtaken traditional desktops. With the ascent of netbooks, mobile computing has reinvented itself, creating a convenient and affordable new format. Pending developments in WiMAX and integrated GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) features bode well for the netbook’s potential growth into future quarters.
- Server products: Statistics have shown that masses of small businesses are still lacking an organized server architecture. D&H’s Server Solutions Specialists, and various educational opportunities the distributor has offered (including a new Virtual Server Expo), have helped steer resellers toward this mostly-untapped business, which may see another resurgence as the recession subsides and smaller offices are motivated to enhance their networks.
- VoIP: As unified communications and VoIP get more sophisticated and vendors scale their solution suites toward SMB, this protocol presents an attractive value proposition. It saves in cabling, long distance fees, carrier costs, and future reconfiguration costs as the network grows.
- Multifunction printers: ROI is now a true motivator in assigning an IT budget, and multifunctional units can conduct an array of tasks with a single investment. More manufacturers are launching energy-efficient units that use eco-friendly ink, yet still offer impressive output speeds.
- Document imaging: Multifunctional scanning solutions allow paper documents to be digitized, shared, emailed and faxed from a single station, streamlining the document management process for increased productivity. What’s more, they offer a “green” incentive for small business owners, allowing them to convert paper files to a more ecologically conservative electronic storage system.
- Network security: Data protection is more crucial than ever for a precarious financial market. Many struggling SMBs can’t afford a breach in the midst of an already tenuous climate. A variety of products, from easy-to-use, plug-and-play PC redundancy to portable encrypted data drives, will continue to be a valued offering.
