D&H Hosts Virtual Event, Mobility Expo
August 31, 2009
D&H Distributing, the North American computer products and consumer electronics distributor, will mount the second of its virtual educational opportunities, “The D&H Mobility Expo, Road to Profit,” on Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., ET. This offering follows in the footsteps of the company’s previous virtual event, built around server solutions, which attracted more than 400 participants. D&H expects a similar turn-out for this new event. Attendance is free for all D&H customers.
The Expo will explore the latest opportunities for a range of D&H customers, including SMB resellers, retailers, dealers, and college book stores, in one of the most profitable and quickly-evolving categories in the industry. Major sponsors of the event include mobility front-runners HP, Lenovo, Acer and Fujitsu, each of which offer an impressive line-up of both notebook and netbook technologies.
These sponsoring vendors (and D&H Distributing) will each provide a virtual booth for the Expo, including product-based instructional videos and interactive chat sessions with live representatives. Attendees can also visit vendor-based resource centers to download materials such as product information and case studies. Many additional vendors will be offering mobility-based product information for review and/or downloading as part of the proceedings also.
The event will begin with a welcome presentation from D&H Co-presidents Dan and Michael Schwab, followed by a keynote address by D&H Solutions Specialist Bill Hersh, titled “Making the Most of Mobility; Leveraging the Windows 7 Launch to Drive Your Mobile Sales.” Hersh also hosted a recent best practices seminar at the D&H New England Technology Show in early August, and is a frequent presenter for both D&H’s destination-based and online events.
The cost-effective and convenient nature of the virtual offering has been well-received by D&H’s customer base, especially in an economy when travel and expense budgets are tight. By participating in targeted virtual events such as this and the spring Server Expo, D&H customers can gain many of the same benefits of a live event, while zeroing-in on a particular sales opportunity, and without the downtime and funds associated with destination-based events.
“Adding the virtual venues to our existing schedule is a terrific way to augment our educational offerings,” said Mary Campbell, VP of marketing. “And since the event is very logistically streamlined, we can set a laser-focus on what we think are the most profitable technologies and categories of the moment for those customers. It’s an expedient, affordable value-add that enhances what has become an ample list of D&H training opportunities.”
Just as with D&H’s physical trade venues, the Virtual Mobility Expo will be a “selling” event, where attendees can take advantage of special promotions on purchases made during the Expo. In addition, attendees will earn “event points” as they make their way through the virtual attractions by listening to presentations, participating in chat forums, downloading collateral, etc. The top three event-point winners will each receive prize packages valued at more than $1,000. Attendees also have a chance to win one of ten $100 Visa Gift Cards through random drawings during the day.
