D&H Launches Web-based, Eco-friendly Product ID Tool

April 16, 2009

D&H Distributing, a North American computer products and consumer electronics distributor, has recently changed the face of its usually red-hued D&H logo to green, to commemorate the launch of its “Go Green” product search tool on dandh.com. The enhanced, “green” certified refinement option allows customers searching for products on dandh.com to easily identify ecologically conservative items. The new function is part of D&H’s overall commitment to promote environmentally responsible policies among its customers, its vendors, and within the company itself. From the current 2,100+ products that the green refinement search results will yield, customers can further filter their search by manufacturer, product category or price. The new portal is currently live and available at www.dandh.com/gogreen and features environmentally responsive products from major D&H vendor partners such as Cisco, Intel, HP, SonicWALL, Acer, AMD and more.

By helping resellers promote eco-conservative solutions in the marketplace, it will give those VARs a competitive selling point, since the money-saving attributes of conservation have become more crucial in this troubled economy. Many companies, especially D&H’s target SMB end-users, are using this as the motivating factor to make sure that the solutions they deploy are more energy-efficient, so costs are cut over the longer term in a world where energy resources are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. From that perspective, “going green” could soon be standard operating procedure across all sectors of business, providing new reseller opportunties.

The products identified by D&H’s “Go Green” web refinement tool range across the IT and consumer electronics markets. The inventory includes an extensive list of hard drives, notebooks, desktops, server solutions, networking, processors, motherboards, printers, peripherals, monitors, and more.

“The ecological impact of our ‘Go Green’ agenda is the primary motivation behind the campaign, which we have put into action through our own recycling and energy-saving efforts. We want to be as accountable as possible,” said Jeff Davis, senior VP of sales at D&H Distributing. “We’re expanding that philosophy by giving our customers a means to take advantage of environmentally friendly products. This helps save the planet, gives our resellers an effective sales strategy, and is a great way to show support for the vendor partners who developed this responsible merchandise.”

In addition to the green web refinement tool, D&H’s distribution centers and corporate office also employ various degrees of recycling processes for paper, cardboard, wooden pallets and plastic. The company utilizes energy-efficient lighting whenever possible, including at two of its newest distribution centers in Atlanta, GA, and Mississauga, Ontario, which employ state-of-the-art conservation techniques and equipment. D&H has also decreased the amount of packaging materials used in its shipping process to reduce waste, and implemented a reduction of paper reports throughout its offices, among other company-wide policies to effect conservation and alleviate consumption.
