Lenovo Adds WiMAX To Notebook PCs
December 17, 2008
(Morrisville, NC) — Lenovo recently announced the offering of WiMAX (worldwide
interoperability for microwave access)-enabled Lenovo ThinkPad and IdeaPad notebook
PCs. Lenovo's WiMAX product line addresses various users — from business users
needing the 2.43-pound portability of the ThinkPad X301 notebook to SMBs with the
more affordable $635 ThinkPad SL300 and SL500 notebooks. WiMAX-enabled versions
of these are now available, and Lenovo will expand its WiMAX-enabled notebook
offering later this year to include its ThinkPad W500, W700, SL400, and X200
notebooks.
Lenovo added the ability for Access Connections to the
notebooks, a tool to recognize WiMAX networks and
help users securely connect. Lenovo now offers a
choice of wireless connectivity options including
WiMAX, WWAN (wireless wide area network), Wi-Fi,
and Bluetooth.
