Accellion Launches Secure Kiteworks Mobile Content Platform

Enables Rapid Design of Enterprise Mobile Apps that Securely Connect Mobile Workers with Enterprise Content

Accellion, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise mobile solutions that enable increased productivity, recently announced the launch of its kiteworks secure mobile content platform. It is the first enterprise-grade platform for designing secure enterprise mobile applications that transform business processes by securely connecting mobile workers with enterprise content.

The kiteworks mobile content platform enables organizations to mobilize enterprise content and extend existing enterprise infrastructure to mobile to deliver increased business productivity. It is designed to support the creation of custom enterprise mobile applications and new mobile workflows that offer secure access to enterprise content, whether stored inside or outside the firewall, so employees can work securely wherever. It features a secure mobile container with an integrated mobile editor, so that workers can create, edit or annotate business content securely on smartphones, tablets and wearable devices. Additionally, the kiteworks out-of-the-box security and control features, including remote-wipe, whitelisting, encryption, and comprehensive tracking and reporting features enable IT teams to ensure data security and compliance with HIPAA, SOX and GLBA.

“The digital enterprise is increasingly a mobile enterprise. Business users and customers are showing a sharp interest in mobile devices and mobile applications. Cloud computing enticed many business departments and companies to become more agile with their applications but fundamentally did not enable new processes to significantly improve business value. The greater long-term value — and at the same time challenge — is the transition of extending and creating new business applications for mobile platforms,” according to the July 29, 2014 Gartner report “Hype Cycle for Mobile Applications and Development, 2014.”

“Enterprises need to give their workers customized, streamlined productivity apps so they can get work done efficiently on any device, and the new kiteworks mobile content platform is designed to do just that” said Terri McClure, Senior Analyst at ESG. "While most EFSS solutions were designed for sharing files and syncing across laptops and desktops, kiteworks was designed for mobile, and it supports the most important capabilities for a new generation of enterprise device use, the ability to access, view, share and collaborate on enterprise content wherever it is stored.”

The kiteworks mobile content platform consists of the following elements:

  • Secure mobile container with built in secure editor and file sharing and collaboration capabilities to enable new mobile workflows and secure enterprise mobile apps
  • Secure content connectors for secure access to enterprise content systems including Microsoft SharePoint, Windows FileShares, HomeDrive, Documentum, OpenText, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box and OneDrive.
  • RESTful APIs for deep integration with existing IT infrastructure as well as enabling developers to build customer apps and extensions.
  • Mobile SDKs enabling the rapid creation of secure enterprise mobile apps using the native platform of choice (iOS, Android, and Google Glass) with secure mobile content containerization included.
  • Reference apps that illustrate the power of the kiteworks platform and provide code samples and tutorials.
  • Developer portal offering a streamlined online community for developers to exchange ideas, get support, and share their contributions.
  • Developer package – A free fully featured version of the kiteworks platform for developers to get started with.

“Enterprise organizations desperately need solutions to securely enable their mobile workforces; the recently announced partnership between Apple and IBM highlighted just how big of an issue this is for organizations,” said Yorgen Edholm, CEO, Accellion. “IT and mobile executives are under pressure to create mobile applications that ensure confidential enterprise information stays secure and compliant while helping mobile employees to work smarter and more productively. The new kiteworks mobile content platform fills this gap, providing the missing technology for secure content access, editing, creation and sharing on mobile and wearable devices.”

The kiteworks mobile content platform is now available in limited beta, including access to a developer portal (developer.kiteworks.com), a free developer package, content connectors and the RESTful APIs for building and integrating with enterprise applications. The full platform including the mobile SDKs and reference applications will be generally available in December 2014. To sign up for the beta, visit developer.kiteworks.com.
