Access Control And Video Surveillance News

Each month, Business Solutions reports news on business in the channel. This month in access control and video surveillance news, OnSSI releases Ocularis v5.0 and new video management software, and Milestone Systems expands ONVIF support and announces Bosch certification.

OnSSI Has Released Ocularis v5.0, Video Management Software (VMS)

Ocularis v5.0 is based on a new recorder that accommodates a high number of cameras per server while maximizing HDD storage effectiveness with dynamic data management for automatic storage load balancing, edge recording support, video aging, and end-to-end 256-bit AES Encryption. Ocularis v5.0 also provides improved site-to-site capabilities and communication with features including push video feeds to remote displays and shared events for quicker responses and greater collaboration.

Ocularis v5.0 is offered in three levels: Professional, designed for organizations operating multiple locations with small to midsize camera counts; Enterprise, built for a wide range of mid-to-large IT-centric organizations; and Ultimate, created for large organizations with extended command and control needs and recording server failover.

Ocularis users with a valid StayCURRENT software upgrade plan can migrate to Ocularis v5.0 free of charge, and their StayCURRENT plan remains in effect. For Ocularis v4.1 and earlier customers without a StayCURRENT plan, they can purchase a special, limited time offer for a one-year StayCURRENT plan to upgrade to the new Ocularis v5.0 at a reduced cost.

Milestone Systems Expands ONVIF Support, Announces Bosch Certification

In the case of ONVIF (open network video interface forum) supported devices, it is often assumed that a device that has passed the ONVIF test tool will simply work in a given infrastructure. This is not always the case, as there are marked idiosyncrasies that need to be taken into account to insure proper interoperability and to leverage full feature use of a device with a VMS (video management system). Before ONVIF-supported devices are listed on Milestone’s supported hardware list, they have been tested to ensure 100 percent functionality with the XProtect open platform technology.

With this in mind, Milestone Systems has released Device Pack 7.9 for partners and customers using Milestone XProtect security solutions. Device Pack 7.9 has support for 1,012 tested ONVIF devices, all using the same optimized driver. Support has also been added for Axis Communications’ Zipstream compression technology.

The XProtect Device Packs include tested and certified drivers that are optimized to enable the relevant capabilities of a camera or other hardware device to be managed by the XProtect software. Testing the drivers ensures the highest quality for a video surveillance solution, which is important for total system operability, efficiency, and stability.

Milestone Systems also announced a certification of its integration with Bosch Access Control. This means that Bosch and Milestone customers can count on a reliable, interoperable solution, and installing partners can take advantage of the practical information in the certification documents for better implementations.

The combined solution now displays real-time access control events and alarms in the Milestone XProtect Smart Client, also providing control of doors, gates, and barriers from within the video interface. Live video and views of recordings are synchronized with all the access control events.

The integration of Bosch Access Control with the XProtect Smart Client means Milestone customers can keep their video interface while adding access control without having to retrain.
