Access Control And Video Surveillance News

Each month, Business Solutions reports news on business in the channel. This month in access control and video surveillance news, Genetec launches a parking enforcement solution and Milestone releases a device pack for its monitoring solutions.

Genetec Launches Parking Enforcement Solution

Genetec has announced that its Genetec AutoVu Free-Flow, a new parking enforcement module for the AutoVu automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) solution is now available. The new AutoVu Free-Flow module helps increase parking enforcement efficiency by providing a real-time inventory of vehicles parked illegally in monitored parking lots.

Genetec AutoVu Free-Flow records the license plate of vehicles entering and leaving each parking lot and compares them to the list of payments received from connected pay-by-plate-enabled pay stations, permit management systems, and mobile apps. Vehicles that stay beyond their purchased parking period are flagged in a live report, highlighting violations awaiting enforcement. AutoVu Free-Flow also automatically identifies returning scofflaws as they enter a parking lot and notifies parking enforcement officers of their arrival and location.

AutoVu Free-Flow can also be used in conjunction with mobile ALPR vehicles. Vehicles placed on the AutoVu Free-Flow violations list are available through the Genetec Security Center interface or synchronized dynamically with parking enforcement vehicles using AutoVu Patroller to maximize enforcement efficiency.

Milestone Releases New Device Pack

Milestone Systems, the open platform company in networked video management software (VMS), has released Device Pack 8.2 for partners and customers using Milestone XProtect monitoring solutions. A highlight of this release is support for perspective correction of video from 180-, 270-, or 360-degree panoramic cameras from Pelco by Schneider Electric.

Global unit shipments of 180-/360-degree panoramic network camera are forecast to increase by more than 60 percent year-on-year, according to research analysts IHS. Panoramic cameras are predicted to gain market share in verticals such as retail, airports, and casinos, where monitoring wide indoor areas is a key requirement of the video security solution. In these scenarios, the cameras can reduce capital expenditure as fewer cameras are required to cover the same area compared to fixed or PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras.

The challenge using fisheye panoramic cameras is that the picture from the camera needs perspective correction, which can be adjusted in the camera or in the software. This process called dewarping has several benefits when done in the software as it allows retrospective viewing. This gives the user the ability to go back in time to view the total scene in its original form and then pan, tilt, and/or zoom with corrected perspective within the 360-degree image.

In addition to the support for Pelco panoramic cameras, nearly 200 devices have been added to Milestone Device Pack 8.2. The number of ONVIF-supported devices has increased by 64, now totaling 1,271 devices.
