AffinityLive Introduces Contractors Module

Business management software company launches new module to address business concerns of privacy and cost of temporary workers

AffinityLive, the makers of a suite of professional services automation software tools, launched a contractors module today that improves businesses’ ability to track time, projects, costs and profitability of temporary and freelance workers.

Freelancers comprise 22 percent of top U.S. businesses’ workforce, according to a recent survey of the 200 largest companies, with almost three in four professional service businesses employing contractors in 2014. This new module addresses the privacy and cost concerns businesses face when employing temporary staff, while providing real-time tracking of contractor hours, costs and profitability.

“More and more businesses are employing workers on a temporary or freelance basis,” said Geoff McQueen, founder and CEO of AffinityLive. “Yet the cost associated with setting up administrative needs of these contractors is high - especially since most technology platforms that manage employed professionals don't handle the specific needs of contractors so they end up duplicating systems or attempting to manage these people manually with email alone. With the continuing rise of the on-demand economy, businesses need technology that makes working with freelancers and temporary professionals fast, easy and centered around their core business activities and client projects."

This new module addresses two key concerns of companies: privacy and cost-of-desk. Unlike regular staff, freelancers are often engaged for one project at a time, making the sharing of broader client information, lists and other projects undesirable. The new module limits the access temporary workers have to projects and client information.

In addition to the emphasis on company privacy, the module also limits the cost-of-desk of onboarding a new employee. Updates to email sending options, contractor user types and the user permissions model streamline the administrative onboarding process. Additionally, when contractors interact with clients via email the email address of the contractor is obscured, ensuring all communications are secure and always pass through the company for safe keeping and reducing the risk of clients and freelancers engaging directly on future projects.

“This new module really upgrades the entire platform,” said McQueen. “In addition to adding Contractors as a new user type, we've also completely re-written our access control system to deliver much more control and granularity, as well as introducing cost and profitability reporting even for businesses without contractors. Our customers have asked for these features, and we’re happy to make them available today.”
