Tech Trends: Benefits Of Unified Comms Ring True In 2010

While many unified communications (UC) projects were put on hold when businesses slowed or stopped IT spend in 2009, most UC work has resumed, marking a positive outlook in 2010. We spoke to four UC vendors — Allworx, Alcatel- Lucent, NEC, and ScanSource — about advice for VARs looking to take advantage of renewed interest in the value propositions of UC. "At the end of 2008 and the first half of 2009, many UC projects were put on hold, not because the value proposition had changed, but because of the uncertain availability of cash to run day-to-day business," explains Jason Beckett, director of sales for Allworx. "That fear ebbed starting in mid-2009, and many existing projects started without much fanfare or reworked proposals. It all returned to positive growth pretty quickly."
