Over the past several years, advances in technology have had a profound impact on the POS industry. POS hardware gave way to standalone software which is now giving way to hosted gateway solutions. The introduction of inexpensive gateway solutions has provided merchants with additional options and made costly POS systems less attractive. As a result, some POS companies may be looking for alternative ways to generate revenue if faced with shrinking margins.
