CIO Panel Discusses Cloud And The Channel

CIOs Norm Fjeldheim of Qualcomm, Sue-Jean Lin of healthcare company Allergan, and Cindy McKenzie of Fox Entertainment Group, were the panelists during a May 16 presentation at Ingram Micro’s Solutions Partner Invitational at the San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina. Mario Leone, Ingram Micro’s CIO, served as the moderator for the panel.

The panel aimed to provide resellers insight from a CIO perspective regarding how and why they make their technology investments, what VARs can do to win their business, and future technology trends within their industries. In this excerpt from the panel discussion, the CIOs discuss the cloud computing and how it has been applied at their businesses.

“I have really tried to embrace cloud more as an opportunity to reduce costs, some for agility to get it up quickly,” McKenzie says. “I was aggressive into different cloud options very early on, namely to reduce costs, and I found there are places it plays really well and places that it doesn’t. For example in a media company, anything that you’re trying to put up quickly and you don’t know what kind of volume hits it’s going to get, that’s perfect. Every one of our movie sites, for example, is on a public cloud.”
