Data Collection And Mobility News From November 2014

Each month, Business Solutions reports news on business in the channel. This month in data collection and mobility news, Honeywell launches a wearable solution and a vehicle-mount computer for distribution centers, and Loftware announces the new release of its enterprise labeling solution. In addition, Datalogic computers receive MCL certification, and new SATO readers include intelligent self-tuning technology.

Honeywell Launches Solutions For Distribution Centers

Honeywell launched a wearable solution and a vehicle-mount computer with applications in distribution centers. The new wearable device — a hands-free, wrist-mounted version of the Dolphin 70e Black mobile device — is designed for warehouse operations including picking, packing, and shipping. It features Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 operating system architecture and support for tethered and Bluetooth ring scanners. The vehicle-mount computer, the Thor CV31, is optimized for forklift and other vehicle installations. It features an internal, 30-minute backup battery and ignition control, runs Microsoft Windows Embedded Compact 7 operating system, and includes a 6.5-inch LED-backlit display, 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU, and 1 GB RAM.

Loftware Announces New Release Of Enterprise Labeling Solution

Loftware released Spectrum 2.5, with new features including reusable objects, character level formatting (CLF), distributed services, and Web services data service. The reusable objects feature enables individual label components to be saved, shared, and reused, and CLF gives designers flexibility to manipulate any character or word in a text field while minimizing the number of templates required. The release extends Spectrum’s integration capabilities, including certified integrations to Oracle and SAP applications. It also enables users to leverage Web standards, providing customers access to applications and other third-party products using SOAP (simple object access protocol), to enable data to be pulled from any application or repository via Web services. The distributed services feature extends failover capabilities and enables load balancing to optimize performance in high volume environments. Among design and print enhancements, the release includes a default data feature that enables users to ensure templates match the desired output by allowing sample data to be used in the design. Also, users can display variable images on forms to validate the correct label has been selected prior to printing.

Datalogic Mobile Computers Receive MCL Certification

Datalogic has been named as a certified device manufacturer by MCL Technologies, a software solutions provider for the development, deployment, and management of enterprise mobile applications and devices. Datalogic’s Memor X3, Skorpio X3, and Lynx mobile devices are now certified to run MCL v4 and the MCL Mobility Platform. This enables channel partners to develop solutions for Datalogic mobile devices using MCL’s application development environment. MCL will also provide direct maintenance and support to Datalogic partners. With MCL, Datalogic partners can remotely manage end-user devices and applications as part of a managed service.

New SATO Readers Include Intelligent Self-Tuning Technology

SATO has expanded the Magellan PJM RFID Desktop Reader Series. Two new models, MDR-4330AT and MDR-3021AT, include self-tuning technology that allows the RFID reader to automatically adjust its sensitivity regardless of the number, size, or type of PJM (phase jitter modulation) RFID tags being used. The MDR-4330AT is a bench-top RFID reader that reads tagged items in any orientation as well as in densely packed containers. The MDR-3021AT is designed for tag-encoding purposes and offers 30x21 cm of effective single directional reading surface.
