EMV: Every Customer Needs Your Help

By Jeff Yelton, Executive Director & GM, Advanced Solutions, Ingram Micro

A change occurred earlier this year affecting every business that processes payment card transactions. But as often happens with major changes, a lot of your customers won’t know how to adjust to this change unless you help them.

Oct. 1 was the deadline for the implementation of the EMV (Europay-MasterCard-Visa) standard protocol, also known as “chip and PIN,” which aims to prevent fraud through computer chips embedded in credit and debit cards. The processors are read by new card readers when a user sticks the card in a slot, rather than swipe it on a magnetic strip reader. The chips are much more difficult and expensive to duplicate, making it a lot harder to counterfeit payment cards and forge transactions.
