ESG Lab Bestows High Marks On DH2i For DxEnterprise, Microsoft Windows Application Container Management Software

Hands-On Testing Finds DxEnterprise Ensures Agility, High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) for Windows Server Applications-Including SQL Server Workloads-while Eliminating Windows Datacenter Complexity and OS Sprawl

DH2i Company, recently named a Cool Vendor by Gartner in the "Cool Vendors in Servers and Virtualization, 20151" report, recently announced the completion of an ESG Lab review and the availability of a summary report entitled, "DxEnterprise from DH2i: Windows Container Orchestration, Automation and Mobility." The report states that during the hands-on review, the ESG Lab found that DxEnterprise delivers agility and ensures high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) for SQL Server workloads, as well as any other Windows application, that runs as a service or group of services. The report also details how DxEnterprise provides key capabilities previously impossible, difficult or expensive to achieve in Microsoft Windows Server environments.

One of ESG's longest running research studies examines and reports on the top pain points driving IT purchases. The study continuously finds that it is rare for any single solution to address more than one pain point. While in the past virtualization was considered to be a potential panacea, research now shows that it is no longer suitably flexible or agile enough for current datacenter infrastructure environments. Ultimately, ESG research indicates that in order to address most if not all of today's critical IT requirements, organizations must have the agility that comes only from fully decoupling applications from both the infrastructure and operating systems (OS)- i.e., container management solutions.

"The idea of 'containers' has been a hot topic in the IT community of late," said Vinny Choinski, Senior Lab Analyst, ESG. "However, until recently the conversation mostly revolved around Linux and Oracle containers, driven primarily by one very vocal proponent and vendor of the technology." He continued, "With the launch of DH2i's DxEnterprise, the conversation has extended to Microsoft Windows applications and SQL Server workloads and the tremendous benefits that a container solution can provide.  During our hands-on testing we bore this out to be true."

The lab test, conducted by ESG's Choinski and Lab Analyst Aviv Kaufman, found that DxEnterprise enables agile workload portability for any SQL Server instance, Microsoft Windows application or file share by decoupling the application from the underlying IT infrastructure and OS. Workloads can then be moved quickly and easily between physical, virtual and cloud-based hosts located anywhere in the world, while maintaining a consistent endpoint connection for clients. This puts control back into the hands of DBAs and IT operations, alleviates relentless pressures such as the need to maintain near-zero downtime, while also offering significant cost-reduction capabilities.

"With the launch of DxEnterprise, DH2i has extended its lead in the Microsoft Windows Server application management space," said Don Boxley, CEO and Co-Founder, DH2i.  "As the ESG Lab makes abundantly clear, containers are one of the only solutions capable of meeting a multitude of the top requirements of today's highly dynamic datacenter.  And as the ESG Lab states further, DH2i's DxEnterprise container management software offers the features necessary to address the unique and highly demanding requirements of new and existing Windows Server application workloads-including SQL Server."

About DH2i
DH2i Company is the leading provider of Microsoft Windows Server application portability and management solutions. Its newly launched flagship solution, DxEnterprise, decouples Windows Server applications-including SQL Server instances-from the host OS and underlying IT infrastructure. This decoupling containerizes the applications and provides the ability to move them with near-zero downtime from any host, to any host, anywhere.  In doing so, customers are able to better consolidate their environment, build and manage hybrid physical, virtual and/or cloud environments, dramatically simplify management, and ensure service level agreements (SLAs). The bottom line for customers equals a 30%-70% reduction in software and related infrastructure costs, ensured application availability, and a 70%+ increase in application management productivity. DH2i is included in the list of Cool Vendors in the "Cool Vendors in Servers and Virtualization, 20151" report by Gartner, Inc. For more information, visit www.dh2i.com.
