Bill James, the founder of baseball Sabermetics, showed the importance of looking at numbers, rather than making assumptions based on the appearance of baseball players.Management guru Peter Drucker said, “What gets measured gets managed.” Although different applications, they both realized something: that paying attention to certain measurements exposes correlations that were never seen before. Why is this important you may ask?

  1. Deploying resources effectively is the art of management. Understanding your employees, including their strengths and weaknesses, how they work best — individually and in groups – how they communicate, and what motivates them to do better are all key considerations. These preferences play a role in everything from what projects you assign them, to the people you have them work with and sit near, to the types of rewards you may offer them for a job well done.
