GPS Tracking Could Make High Speed Chases A Thing Of The Past

Government Technology offers a list of law enforcement technology, stating, “From drones to flexible adaptive computing solutions, these are the top 10 trends you need to be prepared for …” VARs, too, should prepare for the technology their clients in law enforcement will be demanding.

The list includes “hyper-networked cars and people,” as well as the “rise of IoT devices.” As the surge in consumer devices has sparked enterprises to look at how the IoT can provide benefits to them as well, law enforcement and state and local governments are also exploring its potential. Government Technology also lists “wearable situational awareness,” such as wearable heads-up display (HUD), and “Everything-as-a-Sensor,” using data collected from sensors to make decisions and provide information, as two additional trends. Your law enforcement IT clients could also consider “adaptive mobile computing,” beyond portable or mobile, these solutions offer more flexibility in how they are carry and use their devices.

Along those lines, Government Technology says “predictive and contextual policing” through the use of Big Data, will help law enforcement stay a step ahead with data on the probability of criminal activity. Another trend is “evolving user interfaces (UIs). As Government Technology explains, “Predictive user experiences leverage artificial intelligence components to predict what information you may be interested in asking before you ask.” Eye-tracking is another form of user input, and together they can provider smarter and more efficient ways to interact with law enforcement data in the future.

Your IT clients in this vertical could also explore the potential of “real-time social listening and sentiment awareness” that analyzes conversations on social media to understand their communities and provide insight into an area or an event.

“Augmented user experiences (UX)” is another trend that leverages virtual reality technologies to, for example, train officers. These technologies can be embedded in bomb squad robots or drones to help officers visualize the context in which the robots are working.

The article also mentions “unbundled law enforcement apps and software,” acknowledging the trend to pay only for the solutions they need.
