IGEL Technology Enables State-Of-The-Art Workspace Management With The Introduction Of The IGEL Universal Management Agent

As an add-on to IGEL’s Universal Management Suite (UMS) 5, the software solution supports remote, secure and centralized management of any endpoint device leveraging the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system

IGEL Technology Sales Corp., recently announced the introduction of the IGEL Unified Management Agent (UMA), a software solution designed for organizations running Microsoft Windows 7-based Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) systems, and providing a comprehensive workspace management solution that supports the remote, secure and centralized management of an organization’s entire endpoint infrastructure.

As a software extension for IGEL’s industry-leading Universal Management Suite (UMS) 5, which was introduced in October 2015, the IGEL UMA is targeted toward three primary user groups – desktops and notebooks running the Windows 7 operating system; thin clients running Windows Embedded Standard 7; and, IGEL thin clients and zero clients loaded with the IGEL Linux operating system, and used in conjunction with Windows 7 desktops.

“With the introduction of the IGEL UMA, we are providing enterprises across the private and public sectors with a unique opportunity to permanently standardize the remote management of their virtual and cloud desktops, Desktop-as-a-Service and Client-as-a-Service infrastructure, regardless of the desktop configuration scenario,” said Gary Sharp, Sales Director for North America, IGEL Technology.

Simple, Robust Management of Windows 7 Endpoint Devices and VDI
IGEL UMA enables heterogeneous virtual, cloud and desktop environments to be easily integrated, eliminating the need for siloed environments. Furthermore, organizations are not required to modify or convert their existing Windows operating system on a third-party device, as the IGEL UMA can be installed directly on Windows 7-based endpoint devices, which can then be conveniently administered by the IT organization via the IGEL UMS.

Some of the key capabilities of IGEL UMA include:

  • Managing VDI sessions including Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp, VMware Horizon and Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP);
  • Modifying and configuring Internet Explorer, user interface and network settings, printer management and selected security and systems management functions within the Windows 7 operating system;
  • VNC remote assistance for support and helpdesks, which is available free of charge via the IGEL UMS; and,
  • Sophisticated and secure shadowing (VNC) including logging and the group-based allocation of rights.

“Over the long term, our goal is to leverage IGEL UMS and IGEL UMA to establish a standard for modern workspace management within the context of VDI, and the simple, yet robust management of the VDI client module updates was an important consideration in the development of this software solution,” said Sharp. “With IGEL UMA, organizations will now be able to manage their entire endpoint infrastructure in a centralized, remote manner via the IGEL UMS or Microsoft RemoteApp. The introduction of IGEL UMA also marks a new chapter in the development of the IGEL UMS platform, as it increases the versatility of the software by enabling IT organizations with Windows 7-based infrastructure that are currently unable to use a thin client management solution gain access to market-leading management software, to do so now even on systems that are no longer supported by the supplier.”

Pricing and Availability
A subscription to the IGEL UMA is available now through authorized IGEL partners in North America for $41 per device, per year. After one year, organizations can renew their IGEL UMA subscription for $20 per device, per year. IGEL UMS 5.x, or later must be installed in order to access IMI’s integrated functionality with UMS. The new IGEL UMS 5 can be downloaded for free at www.myigel.com. IGEL currently plans to expand the IGEL UMA to support Windows 10-based devices in 2016.
