Infinite Possibilities: The "Powa" Of An Open Platform As POS Software Development Takes Off

Our vision for PowaPOS from the beginning was to develop a platform that eliminates the friction that has kept tablet-based POS from reaching its market potential. In building the T25, we created the first POS hardware specifically designed for the tablet; one that fully integrates all of the key components needed to turn the tablet into an advanced POS terminal. Simple, sleek and secure – with just one power cord.

But first-in-class hardware needs first-in-class software. While we could have taken the approach of developing our own, proprietary POS software – a tack taken by many – a good look at the marketplace told us that there is a better way.

According to a study by First Annapolis, there are at least 4,000 POS software developers in the U.S. alone, and that number is likely low. The POS software market is growing, owing in large part to increased demand from retail and hospitality businesses, but also driven by very specific vertical markets – from salons to cigar stores. Add to that the growing acceptance of cloud-based and SAAS solutions, and the outlook for continued growth POS software development seems assured.
