IoT Solutions: Context Of Location Is Critical
By Jack Bullock, Senior Vice President, Pitney Bowes
Context. It has now become an all-powerful word; one that has changed the way in which we interpret data. Robert Scoble has even written a book on the world of connectivity, sensors, and so forth, in which he refers to this trend as the Age of Context. How we interact with devices is changing and context is at the forefront of that change.
The Internet of Things (IoT), for example, has evolved from context-aware computing. The data generated in an IoT setup make sense only when context-of-use is applied to it, with location acting as an important binding principle to contextually-aware computing.
IoT has the potential to dramatically shape the way in which we lead our daily lives, including how we consume energy, manage precious resources like food and water, and provide access to healthcare. According to a Gartner study, by 2020, the Internet of Things will create $1.9 trillion of economic value add. It is predicted that there will be more and more reinventions in business models in the next decade as the trend comes closer to reality.
