ISVs And VARs: Challenges And Solutions When Certifying POS Solutions For EMV

As Business Solutions editor-in-chief Mike Monocello noted in February’s “Why Now is the Right Time to Sell EMV,” value-added resellers (VARs) and independent software vendors (ISVs) should be enthusiastically offering Europay, MasterCard and Visa (EMV) solutions to their customers.

With the impending liability shift quickly approaching, there’s little question that it is a good idea for merchants to have this security measure in place, in turn exposing their businesses to fewer disputes for fraud while boosting consumer confidence.

The card brands’ EMV liability shift kicks in for many merchants in October 2015. Automated fuel dispensers have until October 2017, due to the complexity of updating those terminals. Compliance is not mandatory for merchants, but those who don’t upgrade to EMV-compliant terminals face a potential liability shift for counterfeit, lost, and stolen card fraud.
