IT Solutions Providers: 4 Opportunities In Video Surveillance In 2016

Whether you are an integrator, reseller, vendor or end-user, 2015 was a year of unprecedented change for video surveillance. Between falling high definition (HD) camera prices, growing investment in body-worn cameras for law enforcement, and increasingly sophisticated video analytics techniques, the video surveillance market got flipped on its head. That means big opportunities for channel partners who are ready to help organizations get a handle on a new era of video surveillance — especially the new data management challenges that come with it. 

Here are four predictions for what’s in store for data storage in the video surveillance market next year:

1. Mainstream adoption of smarter, sharper cameras in larger numbers means way more data to manage. Sophisticated video surveillance is no longer exclusive to homeland security. Universities, municipalities, schools, and commercial enterprises are adopting cameras with more sensors, wider panoramas, and higher resolution than ever before. And, these organizations are seeking out surveillance capabilities — compression, streaming, storage, analytics — built into the cameras themselves for better value. The more rapid than anticipated adoption of HD cameras means that prices will continue to fall and more organizations will make the switch from analogue and secure digital (SD) cameras. In 2016, we’ll see a spike in camera counts — with HD cameras seeing the biggest jump — leading to an exponential leap in video data to manage.
