Low-Tech Auto-Lock Power Cords Increase Data Center Reliability

For high-tech data centers and server rooms that increasingly require reliability approaching 100%, one of the most persistent problems can be decidedly low-tech: loose or accidentally disconnected power cords.

Patented Auto-Lock Power Cords by Quail Electronics, now available from ISC, a supplier of rack mount products including server rack cabinets, power, cooling and network accessories, are designed to increase data center and server room reliability by eliminating the loose or accidentally disconnected power cords that lead to unplanned downtime.

When plugged in, Auto-Lock power cords lock in place, preventing accidental loosening or disconnection. An internal retention mechanism in the ground socket hooks to the power supply inlet pins, resisting any pulling or axial force up to 30 lbs. until the mechanism is released. When so engaged, Auto-Lock power cords can actually support the weight of a small server without loosening or disconnecting.

To release an Auto-Lock power cord, just slide two red tabs on the ground socket simultaneously, and the connector slips out of the inlet, allowing easy removal.

Unlike typical power cord securing devices requiring mated components, Auto-Lock power cords require no hardware or screws, no special inlet, and no tools. Auto-Lock power cords universally fit with any C14 or C20 inlet (whether snap-in or screw-on),

as well as with 5-15P to C13, C14 to C13, and C20 to C19.

Auto-Lock power cords are UL, C-UL, and TUV approved, and custom sizes, gauges, and colors are available.
