New CA ARCserve Release Empowers Customers And Service Providers To Simplify End-To-End Protection Of Cloud And Traditional Platforms

Single, Easy-to-Implement Solution Streamlines Data Backup and Recovery Across Virtual and Physical Systems Running Multiple Operating Systems

ISLANDIA, N.Y. – CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) today announced key product and pricing enhancements to CA ARCserve® that uniquely address the growing demand of customers and service providers for simple, comprehensive data protection that can safeguard information assets across today’s complex IT environments—including virtual and physical systems—on-premise, off premise and in the cloud running multiple operating systems.

These enhancements—driven by close collaboration with CA Technologies customer, reseller and service provider communities and delivered under the company’s Agile Development and Release program—provide comprehensive backup, disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities in a single solution that is easy to evaluate, acquire, implement, and own.

The newest version of CA ARCserve has also been designed for simplified adaptability to future changes in the IT environment—an attribute that has become especially important as those environments are often in a state of ongoing transition to virtualization, cloud and other evolving architectures.

“Customers’ backup-and-recovery needs are evolving rapidly, so it is incumbent upon CA Technologies as an industry leader to rapidly evolve our solutions as well,” said Steve Fairbanks, vice president, Product Delivery, Data Management, CA Technologies.  “Through our Agile Development and Release Program, we are executing on that rapid evolution with enhancements directly driven by and targeted at the new challenges our customers and partners face.”

These high-value enhancements include:

  • New non-disruptive bare metal recovery (BMR) failback capabilities  that enable fast, full system recovery and re-synchronization of servers after they are repaired or replaced while the replica (temporary) server remains active.  The CA ARCserve high availability solution redirects workloads and users to virtual or dissimilar physical machines that are local, remote or in the cloud to seamlessly resume business operations after an outage.
  • Simplified solution licensing and pricing that offers greater economy and flexibility to achieve recovery time and recovery point objectives (RTO/RPO) that align to business requirements.  Customers can now license either an RPO-focused solution that includes full backup functionality along with file replication or an all-inclusive RPO-RTO solution providing full backup functionality, file and system replication, and true high availability to meet demanding business continuity goals.  Both options are available as Managed Capacity (per terabyte) licenses as well as per-socket licenses for virtual server environments to control costs while keeping license management and compliance simple.
  • Integration with CA Nimsoft that complements support with other leading management solutions—such as Level Platforms, LabTech and N-able—to help customers more seamlessly incorporate CA ARCserve into their broader management toolkits and processes. New CA Nimsoft Monitor Probes deliver critical alerts for backup, replication and high availability to administrators through the CA Nimsoft Unified Monitoring console, enabling IT to improve service quality and reduce operational costs.
  • Support for Fujitsu Global Cloud—added to existing support for Amazon, Windows Azure, and Eucalyptus—that facilitates the use of public cloud resources into customers’ business continuity and disaster recovery strategies and services in order to drive down costs, ensure scalability and increase resiliency.

CA ARCserve is available under traditional, perpetual software licensing, through a monthly or annual subscription, or as a comprehensive turnkey Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering that includes bundled and integrated cloud storage.

“CA Technologies clearly understands our changing needs and has demonstrated a commitment to delivering the capabilities we require to fulfill our customer requirements,” said Gregory Tellone, CEO of Continuity Centers, a New York-based business continuity and disaster recovery solutions provider whose Instant Business Recovery offering is powered by CA ARCserve.  “The cloud and virtualization support in CA ARCserve is particularly well-aligned with what our clients require to protect their business and for us to provide them with peace-of-mind.”

A powerful service platform for MSPs

In addition to meeting the evolving needs of SMB and mid-market customers, CA ARCserve offers Managed Service Providers (MSPs) a powerful, flexible platform for building business continuity solutions for their clients. MSPs will find new CA ARCserve features, simple and cost-effective licensing and pricing options, extensive management and cloud integrations particularly useful.

“Growing businesses are looking for service providers like Elevated Technologies to help them conserve capital while still meeting their highly challenging IT objectives,” said Jason Rorie, president, Elevated Technologies, a Houston-based provider of managed and cloud services.  “The latest CA ARCserve enhancements—especially its new automated high availability tools—are perfect for enabling us to meet the needs of this expanding market segment.”
