CompTIA, the non-profit trade association for the IT industry, said recently it has enhanced its CompTIA Authorized Service Center (ASC) program, a business-level credential that signifies a technology solution provider's commitment to high levels of customer service and technical proficiency.
Companies that attain the designation as a CompTIA ASC employ IT professionals who have earned respected industry certifications in PC repairs, as well as support for networks, printing and document imaging devices and servers.
Among the enhancements to the program is a comprehensive search engine that allows businesses and individuals to take the guesswork out of finding a computer repair service. The free resource allows users to search for specific technical skills by locale and identify a CompTIA ASC that can best meet their needs.
"Computer technicians often specialize in particular areas, such as PC service, network and server support, or printing and document imaging help," said Jim Hamilton, vice president, member communities, CompTIA. "With the enhanced CompTIA ASC Locator, users can quickly and easily identify local service and repair centers; and they can do so with the confidence that whichever CompTIA ASC firm they select conducts business according to industry-recognized levels of competence and professionalism."
The updated CompTIA ASC web site also offers new features and benefits for the technology businesses that have attained the credential, or are interested in doing so. The new site includes online renewal and payment options, email payment reminders and electronic invoices; improved profile management; and the ability to assign contacts for multiple company locations. CompTIA ASC members can also tag technicians to specific sites and order promotional signage from an online catalog.
Technology companies earn the designation as a CompTIA ASC by having a specified percentage of CompTIA certified IT professionals among their technical staff. Several types of designations are available depending on the services the business offers and the certifications its staff holds:
CompTIA certifications are the recognized industry standards for a broad range of technology skills, including PC fundamentals and repair, networking, security, servers, Linux, project management, printing and document imaging and convergence technologies. With more than 1.4 million certifications awarded worldwide, CompTIA is the largest provider of vendor-neutral certifications for IT professionals.
The CompTIA ASC program is an initiative of the CompTIA IT Services and Support Community, a group of industry leaders committed to the advancement of the IT services industry. Community members work collaboratively to craft industry best practices and initiatives, provide networking opportunities for IT services thought leaders and develop industry-specific education and tools.
