PCI-DSS Change Highlights

A few weeks ago, on August 15, 2013, the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) issued a preview of the anticipated changes to the PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) to be released in November 2013 (Version 3.0).

According to the PCI SSC, this new PCI-DSS 3.0 version will bring PCI into line as a “business-as-usual” activity. It will help get people out of the habit of thinking of PCI-DSS as a once a year event. According to the PCI SSC, when people get into the habit of checking it once a year and then not thinking about it, that’s when breaches are more likely to happen.

The preview is intended to prepare stakeholders and to provid additional time for the merchants to review and understand the changes prior to their implementation. Stakeholders will also be able to these changes.
