Peer-to-Peer: Trial Anti-Virus Can Leave Your Customers Unprotected

Local Government Corporation provides computer services to government entities throughout Tennessee and the surrounding states. The Columbia, TN-based company offers a suite of software applications, including accounts receivable, property tax, utility billing, permits, general ledger, payroll, business licensing, and other software solutions. The company also provides workstations and servers, along with Web design, hosting, and maintenance services.
Mikel Venable, technical services supervisor at Local Government Corporation, reminds VARs and MSPs to make sure customers are informed of the limitations of trial anti-virus software. “One problem we run into is anti-virus software that is already installed on the devices. The customer uses the trial software for a short time, and then it's gone.” He says his customer’s clients are audited by the state, and they are required to have anti-virus installed on their computers. Whether or not your customers are in the government sector, there’s still a very good chance that their PCs shipped with anti-virus trials that risk expiration.
