Point Of Sale And Payment Processing News

Each month, Business Solutions reports news on business in the channel. This month in Point of Sale and Payment Processing news, VeriFone announces its first handheld EMV-capable payment terminal and announces a new partnership with First Data. Also, Merchant Warehouse partners with TabbedOut, Merchant Link provides point-to-point encryption to MICROS Clients, and Star releases a new, white, color option on select printers.

VeriFone Announces Portable Payment Terminal

VeriFone Systems announces the VX 690 will be available later this year. It is VeriFone’s first handheld EMV-capable payment terminal featuring Bluetooth, 3G radio, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Built-in GPS allows merchants to track the location of every transaction, providing greater visibility into operations and inventory across multiple stores. The terminal is Payment Card Industry PIN Transaction Security (PCI PTS) 3.0 compliant and provides end-to-end encryption to protect data at every point of the transaction. It features a 3.5-inch capacitive touch display, NFC capability to support contactless and mobile wallet transactions, and peripheral capability.

First Data Partners With VeriFone

The company also announced a new partnership enabling the development of the VeriFone edition of the First Data TransArmor solution for U.S. multi-lane and petroleum merchants. The end-to-end encryption and tokenization solution will give First Data customers using VeriFone’s Secure PumpPay and MX series of EMV and near field communication (NFC) devices a complete security solution combining VeriFone’s VeriShield encryption along with tokenization technology from RSA, the security division of EMC. A pilot test of the solution, with data captured at the counter and at the fuel pump, will begin in July 2014.

Merchant Warehouse Partners With TabbedOut

Merchant Warehouse has teamed with TabbedOut. The partnership will enable each company to co-market the other’s payment solutions, facilitating mobile payments, digital marketing, and loyalty programs for hospitality. This partnership announcement was timed to accompany the launch of TabbedOut’s Periscope dashboard, a merchant marketing solution that allows restaurants and bars to understand who their consumers are, collect data on customers’ experiences, and use data to provide offers tailored to specific customers.

Merchant Link Provides Point-To-Point Encryption To MICROS Clients

Merchant Link, a provider of payment gateway and data security solutions, announced that TransactionShield Point-to-Point encryption (P2PE) is available on MICROS RES, MICROS OPERA, and MICROS Simphony 2 solutions. Merchant Link partnered with MICROS to develop an integrated solution that encrypts card data at the swipe on MICROS workstations or via external card readers. TransactionShield protects data from the point of interaction  and as it travels through a merchant’s IT environment. Decryption does not occur until card data reaches Merchant Link’s hosted payment gateway.

Star Releases New White Color Option

Star released a new, white color option on select printers, which emulates the look of tablets and other mobile devices commonly used by retailers using mobile point of sale systems. The new color option is available for select TSP100 and TSP650II models of thermal receipt printers.
