SecureNet Introduces Mobile PayOS App And Card Reader
SecureNet Payment Systems’ new Mobile PayOS turns any iOS mobile device into a secure mobile payment solution. It enables business owners to accept payments and manage their business remotely. SecureNet’s mobile solution includes a free mobile application and encrypted card reader, available for mobile iOS devices and soon for Android. Customizable inventory, tax, sales reporting, and staff management settings allow business owners to configure their mobile stores. It also includes in-app sales reports and business analytics. The app features smart inventory sorting, one-tap sales ticket creation, customized tipping amounts, and instant email receipts with transaction geo-location. Mobile PayOS also enables full and partial refunds from the app.
Partner Tech Adds 3 New Products
Partner Tech recently announced a new handheld computer, a new display, and a new point of sale (POS) terminal. The MF-2351 is the new handheld computer, featuring a 3.5-inch touchscreen, 2-inch thermal printer, and Bluetooth capabilities. It offers the option to add an integrated magnetic stripe reader (MSR), bar code scanner, fingerprint scanner, RFID, near field communication (NFC), GPS, and telecom services. It is EMV (Europay, Mastercard and Visa) Level 1 and Level 2 and Payment Card Industry (PCI) PED (pin entry device) certified.
Partner Tech also announced the CD-70 customer display. For use as a display or as digital signage, the CD-70 displays text, imagery, video, or a combination of all three. It can be mounted on Partner Tech’s SP-800 or SP-1000 POS terminals or on a stand-alone pole. It features display rotation (portrait or landscape) and IP54 rating for for dust and spill resistance.
The company’s new POS terminal is the SP-600. It has an Intel Atom 1.86GHz dual-core processor and up to 4GB of DDR 3 RAM. It has an IP66 rating ensuring splash and dust resistance. Optional features include a mini-PCI-E slot and a biometrics/RFID/ smart card reader.
Mercury Collaborates With PayPal
Mercury Payment Systems recently announced an agreement with PayPal that will enable Mercury’s point of sale (POS) software developers, VARs, and merchants to offer PayPal as a payment option in stores. Mercury’s POS developers will receive a toolkit to enhance their POS systems to accept PayPal’s in-store payments. Resellers of those systems will receive training and certification to bundle PayPal acceptance with the other merchant services they offer. Customers will be able to pay with their PayPal payment card or their mobile phone via the PayPal app.
GoBig Adds Data Capture, Marketing To Wi-Fi Service
GoBig has announced its new Smart Wi-Fi system. It is a hardware and software bundle that gives restaurant and retail guests free Wi-Fi capabilities while in store — and also adds data capture and email marketing. GoBig relies on the guest using any number of social media outlets, loyalty program, or their phone number to log in. Once that information is logged, demographic information can be captured and is able to be used to push targeted electronic marketing (e.g. coupons, newsletters, etc.) and generate leads. The solution meets Payment Card Industry( PCI) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance requirements and is completely cloud-based. GoBig’s reseller program features both recurring revenue and sales incentives on each customer install.
Merchant Warehouse Offers Omni-Channel Extension
Merchant Warehouse has announced the omni-channel extension of its Genius Customer Engagement Platform. With this extension, retailers can offer payment acceptance beyond the physical store to include online, mobile, and in-aisle checkout. This enables point of sale (POS) developers to offer omni-channel capability as yet another value-add product extension. For retailers, the solution provides access to a single, unified view of all payment activity, regardless of where the transaction originated. The platform scales with a business by supporting all channels and mobile commerce, loyalty technologies, and all types of payments.
JetPay Offers Alternative To Legacy Payment Processing Systems
If you're a software developer who was at RetailNOW in August, you may have met Shauna Meyer-Reimers, VP of VAR partnerships for payment processing company JetPay. According to Meyer-Reimers , JetPay offers “simple integration without the need of a third-party gateway, which removes an extra layer of expense and potential point of failure.” If you’re a software developer, you’ve heard such claims before. However, based on conversations Business Solutions Editor-in-Chief Mike Monocello had with ISVs at the event who spoke with Meyer-Reimers, it seems JetPay might just have a legitimate value proposition. According to the processor, Jetpay's platform is based on XML (extensible markup language) and object-oriented methodology, rather than legacy processing systems, and it requires no special software, setup, or special network connectivity. It offers services and features including batch processing, high-speed network and authorization, recurring payments, gift cards, check conversion, automated clearing house (ACH) transactions, fraud protection, and round-the-clock customer service support.
Epson Expands, Upgrades Printer Line
Epson recently announced new printers and upgrades to its thermal label and receipt printers:
The company has added the P80, expanding its Mobilink thermal printer line, the company's point of sale (POS) printers for 3-inch receipts. It is designed for applications that require fully integrated mobile POS printing, such as retail, hospitality, and route accounting/delivery. It prints up to 100 mm per second, which translates to printing a 4-inch long receipt in one second. It has an IP45 rating for resistance to water and dust, and has a 4-foot drop rating.
Epson added one of its thermal receipt printers to its OmniLink Smart Solutions. Epson’s OmniLink TM-T7011-DT (Device Terminal) combines POS printing, a cloud-based services platform, peripheral connectivity, and PC computing power. It is “POS agnostic,” allowing retailers to use the DT with fixed, mobile, and hybrid POS configurations without upgrades. It includes six USB ports for connecting POS peripherals (like scanners, keyboards, displays, and cash drawers), a built-in web server, and technology for driverless, web-based printing. The second DT version in the series, it joins Epson's OmniLink TM-T88V-DT launched back in January.
The new TM-T2011 thermal receipt printer is designed for applications including SMBs and with virtual terminals. It prints at speeds up to 200 mm per second at 203 DPI (dots per inch). The printer ships with all the components required for a reseller to install it at the customer's site, including drivers, utilities, cables, and power supply.
The TM-T70 thermal receipt printer, designed with front access for under-counter placement, has been updated. The printer now offers print speeds of up to 250 mm per second, built-in dual-interface connectivity, and paper-saving and couponing features.
Epson also announced the TM-T88V and Mobilink P60II (both receipt and label versions of the printers) are now available in the company's Made for iOS (MFi) series, with Bluetooth connectivity for the iOS mobile operating system. The printers enable wireless printing from all handheld iDevice peripherals.
PCI Council Highlights Expected Changes
Recently the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) published a preview of version 3.0 changes for PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS). PCI DSS and PA-DSS 3.0 will be published on November 7, 2013. The standards become effective January 1, 2014, but to ensure adequate time for the transition, version 2.0 will remain active until December 31, 2014. Proposed updates include:
- recommendations on making PCI DSS business-as-usual and best practices for maintaining ongoing PCI DSS compliance
- security policy and operational procedures built into each requirement
- guidance for all requirements with content from Navigating PCI DSS Guide
- increased flexibility and education around password strength and complexity
- new requirements for POS terminal security
- new requirements for penetration testing and validating segmentation
- considerations for cardholder data in memory
- enhanced testing procedures to clarify the level of validation expected for each requirement
- expanded software development life cycle security requirements for PA-DSS application vendors, including threat modeling.
These updates are still under review by the PCI community. Final changes are being determined based on the PCI Community Meetings this fall and incorporated into the final versions of the PCI DSS and PA-DSS published in November.
