Each month, Business Solutions reports news on business in the channel. This month in Point of Sale and Payment Processing news, companies announce new products — including a payment terminal, a mini-PC controller with Wi-Fi, receipt-printing technology, tablet POS — as well as a new a label solutions store and new partnerships.  

Harbortouch Unveils New Payment Terminal

Harbortouch has unveiled its new payment terminal, Perkwave. It features a proprietary EMV-enabled credit card terminal integrated with a customer-facing NFC (near field communication) reader. It also accepts standard credit and debit cards. The terminal can be updated remotely to support additional payment methods in the future and also includes a feature that allows Harbortouch to monitor terminal up-time, automatically alerting the company’s technical support department if a terminal experiences any issues in the field. Additional features include the ability for customers to receive e-receipts sent directly to their e-mail addresses and compatibility with the Perkwave loyalty program, currently under development by Harbortouch. Posiflex Offers Mini-PC Controller With Wi-Fi

Posiflex's new TX4200E is a small, industrial PC, multipurpose controller that runs software to drive digital signage, kitchen control configurations, PC replacement, surveillance systems, point of purchase displays, point of sale and service, and wired or wireless vending or kiosk applications. It is powered by a Dual-core Intel Atom D2550 CPU 1.86 GHz with 4 GB of DDR RAM. With a VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) bracket, the TX4200E can be mounted behind a monitor or HDTV to turn any VESA-compliant display or TV into a full-featured PC or digital signage unit. The controller’s aluminum housing is fanless and ventless, and it features a variety of I/O port configurations, low power consumption, HDMI, and options such as powered 24V USB, Wi-Fi, and 64GB SSD. Star Micronics Announces New Receipt-Printing Technology

Star Micronics offers WebPRNT, a technology enabling device-agnostic receipt printer that supports HTTP requests used in web-based point of sale applications. It is currently available with Star’s TSP650II thermal receipt printer, which is equipped with Ethernet connectivity. WebPRNT does not require the installation of drivers or software. It enables printing from any local device hosting a web-based or native application to the receipt printer. Full press release.

Sprint And Vantiv Launch Tablet-Based Point Of Sale

Sprint and Vantiv partnered to launch a tablet-based, cloud-connected, point of sale (POS) system. Vantiv Mobile Checkout, powered by NCR Silver, enables business owners to track sales and profitability, analyze and report on customer trends, manage inventory, market to customers, and process sales on site or on location with secure payment processing. The solution, available through the Sprint business sales channel, includes the tablet, wireless connectivity, encrypted credit card reader, tablet stand, cash drawer, and countertop receipt printer. HP Gives Retailers Both Fixed And Mobile POS Option

This month, HP is introducing the HP MX10 Retail Solution that transitions between mobile and fixed point of sale. Designed for retail and hospitality, the HP MX10 combines the HP ElitePad Mobile POS Solution (MPOS) and the HP Retail Expansion Dock into one integrated solution. It is Windows-based and integrates with the store’s existing IT infrastructure. Key features include connectivity to existing peripherals via serial, USB, and RJ-45 ports and secured latching, a cable lock, and counter security options to protect the mobile solution and dock from theft. OKI Data Americas And General Data Introduce Label Solutions Store

OKI Data Americas and General Data Company partnered to launch the OKI Label Solutions store, an e-commerce portal that allows channel dealers and resellers to order stock labels, specialty labels, tags, and ribbons for OKI’s thermal label printer line. The site will also offer custom order thermal labels, synthetic labels, and pre-printed labels. The OKI Label Solutions store is a password-protected site, enabling users to create specific accounts to make secure online purchases. Full press release.

Apriva Joins Samsung Solutions Exchange Program

Apriva, a provider of end-to-end wireless transactions, gateway services, and secure information solutions, announced that it has become a member of the Samsung Solutions Exchange. The Samsung Solutions Exchange creates mobile solutions on a portfolio of enterprise-grade Samsung Mobile devices. As part of its participation, the company’s mobile payments solution AprivaPay Plus is available to business customers on Samsung smartphones and tablets. Full press release.

J2, AURES Announce Merger

J2 Retail Systems and AURES Technologies have announced their merger and are now trading as J2 Retail Systems, Inc. The AURES Group acquired J2 Retail Systems early in 2013.  Both companies manufacture PC-based EPoS terminals and peripherals and provide point of sale and point of service management to food and non-food retail, leisure, and hospitality verticals. J2 Retail Systems, Inc. will now handle all orders and fulfillment through its offices in Irvine, CA.
