Point Of Sale, Payment Processing And Data Collection News

Each month, Business Solutions reports news on business in the channel. This month in point of sale, payment processing and data collection news, TSYS and PAX Technology launch a semi-integrated solution, NCC offers an EMV-enabled interface with Reflection POS, Zebra introduces a managed services platform and new support services, and ScanSource collaborates with Star Micronics. In other news, Pivotal Payments launches a point-to-point encryption solution, Datacap releases an EVM toolkit for ISVs, Auto-Star announced PA-DSS 3.0 certification, and Janam releases a new handheld RFID reader.

TSYS, PAX Technology Launch Semi-Integrated EMV Solution

TSYS and PAX Technology recently announced a new semi-integrated solution that can help simplify the EMV certification process. Using a single integration approach, this TSYS-certified solution has the ability to process with both TSYS Guardian Encryption and TSYS Guardian Tokenization, offering VARs, ISVs, and their respective customers a secure method for accepting payments, including mag-stripe, EMV, and NFC contactless payments.

Fully certified through all major card brands, this solution integrates with POS devices, eliminating the need to go through the lengthy and often painstaking process of EMV certification. By meeting all necessary requirements, this streamlined approach allows both VARs and ISVs to meet the rapidly approaching October 1, 2015 EMV liability shift deadline.

NCC Offers New EMV-Enabled Interface With Reflection POS

National Computer Corp. (NCC) has partnered with Ingenico and Sterling Payment Technologies to introduce its first semi-integrated EMV solution for the United States market. This new, EMV-enabled interface is available with NCC’s Reflection POS.  Semi-integrated EMV solutions eliminate the need for payment application recertification and mean that the POS and other applications can be changed flexibly. This takes the core POS applications out of scope for EMV by card type. The transmission of the payment data never touches the POS as it is limited to the payment application and the processor. This can potentially take the POS application out of scope for PCI (Payment Card Industry) certification as well.

ScanSource Announces New Relationship With Star Micronics

ScanSource POS and Barcode has entered into an agreement with Star Micronics. The collaboration aims to bolster ScanSource’s offerings in the retail marketplace, particularly for mobility and mobile POS solutions. Star Micronics’ existing relationships with ISVs that specialize in mobile development should enhance ScanSource’s offerings in the fast-growing mPOS market and help connect its resellers to an ecosystem of ISVs and developers.

Pivotal Payments Launches Point-To-Point Encryption (P2PE) Solution

Pivotal Payments has completed point-to-point encryption (P2PE) certification for its FlexPoint integration platform. Along with delivering anti-fraud measures, FlexPoint’s P2PE solution effectively reduces PCI DSS scope for ISVs, VARs, and merchants, lowering the cost and effort needed to achieve and maintain compliance.

FlexPoint’s proprietary software encrypts cardholder data directly at the POS, rendering it useless to fraudsters without a special decryption key located safely with the processor. Since the encrypted data is sent to a point of secure decryption outside the merchant’s environment, in the event of a breach, liability is pushed upstream to the processor. FlexPoint removes many hurdles for PCI certification and also allows POS software developers and vendors to reduce time and cost associated with PA-DSS audits.

Datacap Releases EMV Toolkit For ISVs

Datacap Systems has released an integration guide and developer’s toolkit for dsiEMVUS, Datacap’s universal control that allows POS providers to add support for US EMV (chip-based) transactions. Datacap’s “one-to-many” integration will allow POS providers to send US EMV transactions through their merchants’ payment processor of choice via an evolving list of supported hardware. Because of Datacap’s “Semi-Integrated” approach, ISVs drastically reduce their certification requirements as Datacap is performing the full software and hardware certifications on their behalf.

Auto-Star Enhances Data Security With PA-DSS 3.0 Certification

Auto-Star Compusystems recently revealed that version 8.2 of the Star-Plus POS and retail management software has been validated as compliant with the PA-DSS version 3.0 requirements. The PA-DSS (Payment Application Data Security Standard) is the global security standard created by the PCI Security Standards Council. The goal of PA-DSS is to help software vendors and others develop secure payment applications that do not store prohibited data, such as full magnetic stripe, CVV2 or PIN data, and ensure their payment applications support compliance with the PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

Janam Releases New Handheld RFID Reader

Janam Technologies recently unveiled its new XM2-RFID UHF mobile computer. The handheld device, which weighs 13 ounces, reads ISO18000-6C, EPC Global Class 1 Gen 2 tags and is able to complete more than 40,000 tag reads on one battery charge. The XM2-RFID UHF includes Zebra’s SE4500 2D imager for decoding of the hardest-to-read barcodes. It also comes equipped with a 3.2-inch color display and support for Microsoft’s Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 operating system. Other highlights include ARM 9 processor, IP64 sealing, 128MB of memory with expansion capability, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and a 2880mAh hot-swappable Li-ion battery.

Zebra Introduces Managed Services Platform, New Support Services

Zebra Technologies Corp. recently introduced the Operational Visibility Service (OVS), a new managed service that provides a platform and dashboard for at-a-glance visibility into Zebra mobile device asset performance and operational business performance. OVS is built on Zebra’s Asset Visibility Platform — a cloud-based management and integration platform purpose-built for the management and control of business-critical assets.

OVS provides actionable insight into device health, location, utilization, operational trends, and services to help businesses achieve maximum productivity and business performance. In addition to the devices in operation, the OVS Operational Dashboard provides real-time updates on the status of devices as they move through the repair workflow.

Zebra also announced the launch of Zebra OneCare, a portfolio of support services that maximizes the uptime and availability of Zebra mobile computers, printers, bar code scanners, RFID devices and wireless LAN (WLAN) infrastructure. The new offering enables partners to grow revenue and expand relevance with their customers.  Three different service levels were designed to give organizations the level of service that best meets their business needs and budget.
