Protecode Announces Release 4.12

Protecode, a leading provider of open source management solutions, recently announced enhancements to its Protecode Enterprise System product suite with the release of version 4.12. These include:

Scan Anyfile - Enterprise Analyzer (EA) can now be configured to scan additional file types (e.g. Fortran, Swift, Scala, etc.) for information such as copyright, licensing, etc.

Package Tracking – Customers can now identify what Open Source Software (OSS), custom or proprietary packages, are used within any of the products in their portfolio through a simple search window on the report history interface.

Enhanced License, Copyright and Policy Management - License & Policy Management tabs have been fully redesigned to provide a more centralized location for license and policy management. Custom license management has been enhanced to enable capturing obligation summaries for any license and reporting of the custom obligations in the License Obligations Report (LOR).

Customized License List Report - There is now a single-click solution to fulfilling the attribution requirement of OSS licenses; the License List Report (LLR) has received layout and formatting improvements that can be customized by a CSS file.

Per-Folder Project Matching - A new feature that allows users to focus on a subfolder within a large project, and recalculate the best match to the collection of files in that folder only. This feature improves sub-project determination in a composite project and reduces false positives.

Selective Confirmation and Bulk Confirmation - Additional enhancements to reduce the confirmation time based on a user’s previous confirmation preferences. Users can now fill-in the confirmation information for just those unconfirmed files in a folder or portfolio, preserving the information for files previously confirmed. Now, controlled by defined portfolio relationships under management section, users are able to share confirmations across reports within the entire organization. With, the addition of a new CSV conversion tool, users can enter information captured in an Excel CSV file, and then enter them into the Enterprise Server (ES) database in order to perform bulk confirmations.

Composite Project License Mismatch Alerts - For composite projects that have been incorrectly licensed (e.g. an MIT license on a package that includes GPL files), Protecode now includes a one-click access to a visual warning and detailed information about the mismatched files.

Usability Improvements - Based on feedback from customers, Protecode has added many usability improvements including:

  • Added an option within the EA Preferences to force mega-jar expansion
  • Rationalized the report file naming conventions based on portfolios
  • Ranked the partial file matches in GUI
  • Allowed the exportable CSV  to now contain a high/medium/low rating for each partial file match

UI Performance Improvements - Users can now introduce common patterns (“Ignore” functions) and see the results immediately without rescanning the project. Tab switching time is now instant, independent of the project size. For very large projects, the GUI load time is now reduced by up to factor of five.

Code Administrator Enhancements - A number of usability and functional improvements have been made to the Code Administrator interface, such as adding the package-approval requestor name, and request status to email notifications for improved clarity.
