5 Reasons A Security Command Center Is Crucial To Higher Education

By Rob Hile, Director of Enterprise Command Centers, SureView Systems

Higher education facilities are being elevated to a new level in technological advances — wireless communication, “smart” classrooms, and interconnected learning — and security solutions in this market are no different. Today’s campus environments require a variety of systems to manage the vast amount of data, evolving security needs and a growing number of assets that must be protected on a daily basis. To accomplish this, colleges and universities should look at a number of ways technology can help address safety and security needs:

  1. System Conversion From Old To New. Limited capital for publicly funded colleges and universities can hinder the ability to update systems to the latest and greatest technology platforms. Many of these facilities need security solutions that will allow a migration path from older technologies, such as analog video, to newer technologies such as wireless access control or IP surveillance. Such disparate systems cannot communicate without specific integration efforts. Therefore, a solution that combines these systems and the respective data streams into one interface will streamline alarm management and allow security professionals the ability to respond to and act on incidents quickly and efficiently.
