RSPA President's Note - October 2012

There is a lot of change and transition taking place in our industry. Both resellers and vendors are looking for information to make good business decisions on the strategic direction of their respective businesses. RetailNOW offered the right venue to bring the entire industry together and provide the education, networking and world class product exhibits for the attendees to find the information to help ensure a profitable future. That sounds like an advertisement for RetailNOW, however, the show’s success is a reflection of the expansion of opportunity in our industry. The evolution in hardware, SaaS/recurring revenue products, the intersection of POS and payment processing, and new products all allow RSPA members to reach beyond the traditional front-of-house marketplace into the entire enterprise and supply chain. Mobility, digital signage, physical security, social media-based loyalty/rewards programs and more all offer these opportunities. On top of those opportunities, the need to secure customer data is more important than ever as merchants collect personal identifiable information (PII) for marketing purposes. Check out the article on page 24 on the Industry Strategy Meeting recently held by RSPA. It will provide some additional information on what is being done to sustain our industry as we all step up our game.
