What is Digital Signage and CMS? Digital signage, for purposes of this article, refers to digital displays found indoors in most verticals, including: retail, hospitality, healthcare, education, and government to name a few. Digital displays come in a variety of form factors ranging from large, flat screen monitors to customer-facing POS terminals, self-checkout kiosks and in some cases customers’ smartphones. CMS is the software that enables management of the information that is displayed on the displays.
Why does a merchant care about digital signage and CMS? Digital signs have made the transition from being a novelty to an essential device in most segments. Whether it is a wayfinding device in a mall, health education in a doctor’s office, or a daily special in a restaurant, digital signage has become a viable customer engagement tool.
