For those who don’t know MSP (managed services provider) VanGuard Technologies’ history, reading company President Matthew Adkins’ bio may not a good place to start. Titles such as “author, speaker, trainer, business advisor,” along with the myriad of accomplishments he’s achieved during his 15 years’ experience in the “design, implementation, and administration of business networks” are like salt in a wound for the average IT service provider struggling to make payroll every two weeks. Before judging Adkins as someone who’s unaccustomed to adversity, you should know this: During the last U.S. recession, which began December 2007, VanGuard nearly went out of business. Compounding the effects of a weak economy was the untimely death of one of the company’s founders, followed by the departure of two more founders shortly afterwards. To his credit, Adkins hung in there, made a couple decisive business changes, and transformed his business.
