In its latest State of IT report, Spiceworks gives IT solutions providers data on spend and adoption of the latest tech trends. The company turned to its network of IT pros to compile stats and trends from 1,121 survey respondents the North America (NA) and Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) regions.

The report includes data on IT budgets and staffing. When it comes to IT budgets, the report shows that the average budget of IT companies is more than $250,000. Up to 42 percent of IT professionals surveyed plan on increasing their IT budget through 2015.

The report also shows that as an IT company expands in size, its spending per employee decreases. Additionally, as a company increases in size, its IT staff tends to get bigger. Another trend having to do with staffing shows that over the next year, 60 percent of companies plan on keeping their IT staff levels the same, 28 percent are looking to add staff, and 4 percent actually plan on reducing the number of IT professionals they employ.

When it comes to the cloud, the Spiceworks report shows that more than 60 percent of the companies surveyed have adopted some form of cloud coverage for their data, 8 percent plan on doing so in the next six months, and 27 percent have no plans of doing so in the next year.

Spiceworks also reports 68 percent of company IT pros support bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies.

The report states virtualization adoption is widespread, with 74 percent of all companies reporting adoption, and 9 percent stating they will adopt virtualization in the next six months. The larger the company, the higher the adoption rate: companies of 500 or more have an adoption rate of 90 percent, while companies of 19 or fewer employees have a 54 percent adoption rate.

Mobile adoption is about 63 percent, regardless of company size, and 11 percent of respondents say they plan to adopt mobile in the next six months.

Spiceworks presents the report in a new format that highlights findings with charts, graphs, and video and allows the reader to select areas and metrics of interest.
