STORServer Enters Cloud Business With Solutions, Services For Scalable Data Protection

The cloud solutions are backed by the company’s award-winning purpose-built data protection appliance and are sold with a data recovery guarantee, which ensures that customers will not only get their data back in the event of a loss, but the data will be useable once it is recovered. STORServer offers both private and public cloud offerings for disaster recovery, as well as managed cloud services for automated backup, archive and disaster recovery:

1)    Disaster recovery to a private cloud

This service, which is available to existing IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager (TSM) and STORServer customers, includes a STORServer Backup Appliance for automated disaster recovery that is configured to the enterprise’s daily backup requirements. Customers who purchase this cloud offering typically want to move away from tape or currently do not have a disaster recovery solution. Full data protection recommends an off-site second backup copy or disaster recovery copy. Disaster recovery to a private cloud packages a second appliance as the target to copy the primary TSM or STORServer Backup Appliance.

2)    Disaster recovery to a public cloud

This service provides a unit-based monthly or annual service charge for copying backup or archive data to a remote location. STORServer offers disaster recovery charged on a space basis (cost per gigabyte or terabyte) to replicate data from an existing onsite TSM or STORServer Backup Appliance to a certified STORServer public service provider. No additional onsite hardware or software investment is necessary. Customers who purchase this cloud offering do not require a dedicated cloud appliance and typically want to move away from tape or currently do not have a disaster recovery solution.

3)    Backup, archive and disaster recovery to a public cloud

This solution is available to any facility and does not require a TSM or STORServer installation. Purchase and installation of software clients and database agents, however, is required. Like disaster recovery to a public cloud, this service includes a storage-based (cost per gigabyte or terabyte) fee for copying and storing backup or archive data to a certified STORServer public service provider. Customers who purchase this cloud offering typically want a completely “hands-off” solution for backup, archive and disaster recovery because they cannot justify the expense of a hardware solution or staff for daily administration.
