In recent years, companies have made substantial investments into their information security infrastructure. IT auditing, widespread antivirus deployments, and other network-based defense mechanisms have had a major impact on the detection and eradication of typical Internet-based malware threats.

These investments notwithstanding, companies are still often not aware of a more significant threat to their network: network attacks that are targeted specifically for their organization.
