The Internet Of Things: Why The Future Is In Your Pocket

The Internet has developed significantly since it first came onto the scene thirty years ago. At its start, surfing was nonexistent and Internet/processor speeds were atrocious. Now, fast forward to today, the Internet isn’t even recognizable. Websites are more interactive than ever, advanced analytics can track website users, and almost every person has access to some basic level of Internet connection.

With the advent of “smart” technology, we have completely redefined what the Internet is and what role it plays in our lives. For example, from my iPhone I can control the temperature of my house, my lights, my desktop computer, and even my door locks. The list goes on. With better Internet speeds and constant Internet connectivity with smartphones in the pocket, the possibilities for controlling the world around us using mobile apps seem endless. Savvy inventors and software engineers are pushing the limits of Internet and discovering new, exciting ways Internet connectivity can simplify life.

Check Kickstarter any given day and see the influx of projects that tout mobile connectivity. With the cars we drive and the homes we live in connected to the Internet, it is not too far off where people will be connected to the Internet constantly. This phenomenon of “smart objects” is called the Internet of Things (IoT), and it will completely change how people connect and interact with each other in the future
