Healthcare facilities are meant to be a source of comfort and healing; however, even hospitals and clinics are subject to crime, fraud, and other illegal acts. In fact, a 2012 study showed that incidents of crime at U.S. healthcare facilities were on the rise. The 2012 Crime and Security Trends Survey, which was underwritten by the Foundation of the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) and based on online responses from 208 member healthcare organizations, found that the number of crimes increased by nearly 37 percent in just two years from just under 15,000 in 2010 to more than 20,500 in 2012.
Faced with a growing number of threats, it’s up to healthcare security officials to safeguard their facilities with the effective application of technology.
