As SMBs look for faster and easier access to social and mobile analytics and more processing power and storage, cloud adoption has boomed. According to The SMB Group, cloud is the new IT infrastructure for SMBs, with 92 percent using at least one cloud business solution and 87 percent using at least one cloud infrastructure solution. The SMB Group also reports that in 2015, cloud solutions were poised for hockey stick growth as more SMB decision-makers turn to a cloud-first approach. Looking forward into 2016, here are Epson’s top seven predictions for SMBs and cloud, including how the smallest retailers may be taking the biggest leap when it comes to adoption.
- The POS System As We Know It Is Going Away. Maybe not in 12 months, but within the next 24 months, the point-of-sale (POS) system as we know if now will be gone. The POS is going back to being a basic order entry terminal, while mission critical tasks in-store or above store are handled by mostly integrated applications. Mobile devices are becoming the primary way in which you order, pay and interact with a retailer — whether it be brick-and-mortar or online. If the larger players are slower to recognize that the POS is going away, they’re going to be slower to leverage the technologies being used to more effectively engage the customer.
