Mobile Device's Breach Risk

According to the results of a recent SOTI study, while more than two-thirds of global businesses consider Android devices integral to their daily operations, almost 40 percent still have concerns over security of Android devices.

In the study, enterprise mobility management (EMM) and bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policy management provider SOTI surveyed more than 450 enterprise IT professionals and reports: “Today’s workforce demands the ability to work anywhere and everywhere and being able to successfully balance the proliferation of devices with the need for security and management is vital to any successful mobility program.”

The study finds 30 percent of respondents use multiple devices, with 13 percent of Android users also utilizing iOS devices and 28 percent of iOS users also accessing Android at work. That means that there is a real need for management solutions that can support a broad range of mobile operating systems with a comprehensive mobility strategy.

More than two-thirds of those polled say they use their devices multiple times per day, with almost one-third reporting almost constant device use through the workday.

Notably, 36 percent report security and privacy as the largest concerns regarding Android device use in the enterprise, while another 32 percent say that the lack of clear separation between personal and work content was the greatest concern.

Nearly half of respondents say their companies had no official management program for mobile devices in use.

Among the chief hurdles to adoption of Android in the enterprise are fragmentation and the lack of a secure means to manage enterprise applications and content on Android devices in the workplace, according to SOTI.
