Use Edge-Recording To Address A Variety Of Surveillance Applications
By Jonathan Doyon, Genetec
In the last few years, IP video camera and software vendors have been investing in engineers to develop support for storage on the edge, for which both ONVIF and PSIA have recently released standards. Decentralizing the recording of video is definitely an emerging trend in IP (Internet Protocol) video surveillance. Many IP cameras today have an SD card slot, which allows video to be recorded directly to a network attached storage (NAS) or iSCSI (internet small computer system interface) storage area network (SAN) even if the application program interface (API) in the firmware was not available at the initial launch of the camera.
