Market Forces Driving MSPsTo Move Up The Maturity Curve
The demand for managed services is gaining momentum because of a confluence of macro-market trends:
- Continued economic and competitive pressures are forcing a growing number of corporate executives to reassess their strategic initiatives and refocus their limited resources on their core competencies.
- Corporate and IT executives in businesses of all sizes across nearly every industry are recognizing that it isn’t cost effective to manage their IT operations entirely on their own.
- They are increasingly looking for ways they can ‘out-task’ specific aspects of their IT needs to third-party service providers who can perform these functions more cost-effectively.
- MSPs are doing a better job of delivering their services in a cost effective fashion which is giving managed services greater credibility in the eyes of corporate and IT decision-makers.
As a result of these trends, approximately 7 in 10 end-user organizations today contract with a MSP for some or all of their technology needs, according to a recent survey report published by CompTIA(1). The CompTIA study found 46% of the current users of MSPs have reduced their annual IT expenditures by 25% or more as a result of their shift to managed services, with 13% experiencing 50% or more IT savings. These savings and other business benefits have driven 62% of the current users of MSPs to plan to increase the proportion of their IT operations managed by MSP over the next two years.
