What MSPs Can Learn From Chick-fil-A

Selling Managed Services To Nonprofits

I love coming across quick, easy-to-follow advice for solutions providers. During a short presentation at the recently-held GFI MAX Customer Conference in Orlando, Tony Hayden, president of Sabre Networks, shared his thoughts on why an MSP should adopt many of the practices of restaurant chain Chick-fil-A. He believes the result would be a highly successful business. Here's what the restaurant does that can be applied to your business.

  1. Offer the highest customer service. Chick-fil-A employees exude an attitude of servitude. They want to help you.
  2. Offer the highest quality. For the restaurant, that means high-quality chicken. For you, it’s best of breed.
  3. Never compromise or compete on price. Accept that you aren’t the cheapest and stick to it.
  4. Know that your managed services aren’t for everyone. Not every customer is right for you. Accept it and feel empowered to walk away from those who don’t fit.
  5. Stick with your principles in getting, keeping, and losing clients. Hayden lamented that in his entire career, every time he deviated from core principles with a client, he regretted it.
