ASIS 2013, “Smart, Strategic, Secure,” is designed for “security professionals looking for real solutions to real challenges.” The seminar and exhibition, an annual industry event for security professionals, will take place Sept. 24 to 27 at McCormick Place, Chicago.
ASIS 2013 features three distinguished keynote speakers to highlight each day of the event. Steven Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computer, is the first keynote speaker, taking the podium on Sept. 25. Wozniak single-handedly designed the first personal computer, and in 1985, received the National Medal of Technology, the highest honor for America’s leading innovators. In 2000, he was inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame and received the Heinz Award for Technology, The Economy and Employment, for designing the first personal computer and later redirecting his lifelong passion to encourage mathematics and electronics education in grade schools. After leaving Apple, he has been involved in various business and philanthropic pursuits. He currently serves as chief scientist for Fusion-IO and is a New York Times best-selling author; his autobiography is iWoz: From Computer Geek to Cult Icon.
The Honorable John Winston Howard, 25th prime minister of Australia, is the keynote speaker on Sept. 26. Howard initiated major policy reforms in taxation, labor laws, and social policy, and under his leadership, Australia was both a strong and close ally of the United States. Australian forces joined the coalition of the willing in Iraq in March 2003. Australia strongly supported the war against terrorism with her forces continuing to serve alongside American and other coalition forces in Afghanistan.
Mike Ditka will speak at the closing luncheon on Sept. 27. Ditka’s career with the Chicago Bears, as player, assistant coach, and head coach, has earned him three Super Bowl wins and a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Ditka will share his “ACE” presentation—Attitude, Character, and Enthusiasm — the key characteristics people need to achieve their personal and professional goals.
Law Enforcement/Military Appreciation Day
Sept. 26 is Law Enforcement/Military Appreciation Day.
