Security is top of mind of most people in the channel today, driven by a climate of political unrest and constant change in technology, science, and worldwide relations. What constitutes security can vary based on the situation, the individual, or the enterprise, but what is continually relevant is the need to foster a realistic sense of security and a plan of action.
It is essential to approach security from a holistic perspective to fully address the complexity of it. This involves analyzing channels that improve quality of life and overall safety. Planning, management, and process development are key factors in determining levels of necessary security.
Something of a buzzword in the security industry, situational awareness is a means of truly understanding our surroundings as well as the elements that ensure safety, including attention to threats and risks. It is an all-encompassing practice based on the concept knowledge is power. The first step is becoming aware of the environment, followed by positioning yourself to proactively react in a safe and resourceful manner. Achieving situational awareness is a challenge that can be addressed by enterprises in a variety of ways. Analyzing past events and preparing for future events is paramount in the process of creating a place of security.
Safety can be perceived in many different ways depending on the individual. For some, safety means living in a secure neighborhood, while others define it as going to school without the threat of violence. Finding ways to protect yourself and your belongings may be a relatively simple process. Elevating that level of security for a business that must protect assets and employees or providing security for an entire city takes calculated effort and innovative resources.
Safe City Initiatives
The building block for creating a functional safe city begins with a global outlook. Identifying potential risks, whether cyber or physical, is essential to strategically develop a safe infrastructure. Leading figures must employ security measures for businesses, transportation, education, banking, and all other municipal entities with integrative and scalable technology.
Schools And Campuses
It is unfortunate in today’s educational environment that we have to fear for the safety of our children when they enter a place that is supposed to embrace and promote security. It is paramount institutions proactively plan for active incidents through policy promotion, technology enhancements, advanced security equipment, and full surveillance.
Today’s security risks look much different than they did just a decade ago. As technology evolves and cities change, so do the levels of risk. Unique threats require unique strategies to address them. How individuals, cities and schools achieve preparedness can be the difference between a volatile situation and a close encounter.
